Are vampires here to stay?

Vampires have long been known as one of Hollywood’s favorite monsters. In recent years, the typically dark creatures have transformed from being feared to being lusted after in the hit movie franchise, Twilight and in popular television shows such as True Blood and The Vampire Diaries. But filmmakers seem to be trying to change these monsters from their current beautiful and misunderstood stereotypes back into blood hungry individuals.

The next film to do this is Scott Charles Stewart’s flick entitled Priest, which chronicles a priest (played by Paul Bettany- Iron Man 2) in the post-apocalyptic era in which he disobeys his role as a spiritual figure in order to track down a pack of murderous vampires who have kidnapped his niece, Lucy (played by up and comer Lily Collins of The Blind Side fame).

The sci-fi thriller films also stars Cam Gigandet who made a name for himself after playing one of the only normal, nomadic vampires named James in the first Twilight film. This time around Gigandet won’t be playing a member of the un-dead, he will be taking on the role of a human fighting back against the evil vampires. But that is not the case for Stephen Moyer. Moyer who is best known for his role as Bill Compton, the self-conscious and love struck boyfriend of Sookie Stackhouse in True Blood will once again be playing a vampire in Priest

Priest is set to be released in theaters on May 13, 2011.
