Despite Tragedy, Disaster Flick Takes First Place

Despite the tragedy that took place in Japan over the weekend, the disaster, end-of-the-world flick Battle: Los Angeles took first place at the box office this weekend taking in an estimated $36 million.


The Johnny Depp animated film, Rango took second place with a respectable $23.1 million compared to the low intake of the newly released Disney Studios film, Mars Needs Moms. The new 3D film rounded out the top five only taking in $6.8 million, despite its large $150 million dollar budget.

Twilight director, Catherine Hardwicke's new film, Red Riding Hood (a dark re-telling of the original fairy tale) took third place with $14.1 million. Emily Blunt and Matt Damon's sci-fi, love story, The Adjustment Bureau stayed in fourth place grossing just over $11 million.
