Little Red Riding Hood meets 'Twilight'?

Catherine Hardwicke who made a name for herself after becoming the first female director with the largest grossing film Twilight in 2008, has decide to exchange vampires for a darker kind of fairytale in her new film, Red Riding Hood. The story which is adapted from the classic fable has a modern feel in which Hardwicke described as "sexy, dark and twisted".

The movie is set in a medieval village in which a werewolf haunts and a young girl named Valerie played by Amanda Seyfriend (Dear John) falls for an orphaned woodcutter despite her parents dismay.

Although this film does deal with fantasy elements and the paranormal, Hardwicke claims this film is different in its entirety from the Twilight films. However, there seems to be a crossover of the two movies in terms of actors being used.

Billy Burke who plays Charlie, the nieve father of Twilight protagonist Bella Swan, has reprised his role as a father again, playing the parent of Valerie in Hardwickes new flick. But that isn't the only actor being recycled. Shiloh Fernandez (Gossip Girl) who plays the male lead of Peter in 'Hood' was one of the original choices to play Edward Cullen, the brooding teenage vampire. Fernandez was discarded at the last moment after Kristen Stewart (Bella) wanted Robert Pattinson to play the role. Although Shiloh was already rejected once by Hardwicke, rumors circulated that during pre-production Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black- Twilight) was scouted to play Peter as well. However, Hardwicke said that the Lautner talk is just speculation stating that Shiloh is perect in this role. "He wasn't right for Edward but he is perfect with Amanda in this film," said Hardwicke.

Hardwicke is also planning on releasing a director's notebook for fans to get an inside view on the making of 'Hood' which will be released following the film. Red Riding Hood will makes it way to theaters on March 11, 2011.
